I live and write in New York City. I'm currently the financial correspondent at NPR, where I report on financial and corporate power and how it affects all of us. I provide economic and financial analysis across NPR's broadcast shows and podcasts — including Up First, Morning Edition, All Things Considered, The Indicator from Planet Money, and the NPR Politics Podcast -- and to outside podcasts and TV outlets, including MSNOW. I also write breaking news and ambitious, exclusive enterprise features for NPR.org.
Previously, I was a senior writer at Fortune, where I wrote features and analysis about finance, gender, and the intersection of policy and business. I also write the Lady Business newsletter, about the intersections of gender, business, and culture.
My work has won multiple journalism awards, including the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi award for public service in magazine journalism and several honors from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers (SABEW). My first book, Startup Money Made Easy: The Inc. Guide to Every Financial Question About Starting, Running, and Growing Your Business, was published by Harper Collins in 2019.
